Summary

From USA Today bestselling author L.J. Shen comes a witty romance about a woman desperate to marry into money…and her fake marriage to a (real) billionaire reluctant to commit even to a zip code.

Riggs Bates may be a billionaire, but he knows money can’t buy happiness. He keeps his financial status a secret and takes his women the same way he takes his meals—a different one three times a day. That’s until he’s caught sleeping with a married newswoman by none other than her ambitious assistant.

Daphne “Duffy” Markham wants two things in life: marry well and stay in the States. So when her almost-fiancé takes off to “find himself” and her work visa approaches expiration, Duffy resorts to the only thing she has left—blackmail. Luckily, Riggs needs an excuse to stay in New York as badly as she does, so their first meeting quickly leads to a begrudging engagement.

Armed with strict house rules and their mutual distaste for one another, Riggs and Duffy soon find there’s no denying the spark between them…or the fact that this fake marriage is starting to feel a little too real.

Fab rollercoaster

It was really nice to hear Riggs story. Duffy was hilarious and really brought Riggs to life! The English accents and some expressions are not great, but still overall an enjoyable book.

Enjoyed it so much

Loved the banter and the constant feel good. Pretty unputdownable. Bad English accents but the story was so lovely I could get over it :)

Friggin loved this book

I friggin loved this series, each story just got better with Riggs a d Duffy the final instalment.

I read in tandem with the audio, Heather was fantastic as Duffy, and whilst Tor was great for Riggs, however he should not attempt a British accent 🤦🏼‍♀️😬,

Riggs absolutely stole by heart, and I love Duffy who’s a Brit after my own heart.

There interaction had me tittering for the start.

This has it all from love and laughter to tears.

Riggs is broken by his past and is not prepared to settle down for anyone, he’s forever the drifter.

Daphne (Duffy) is never willing to be poor ir hungry ever again and will do anything to make sure she marries well.

Then it all goes terribly wrong, for both of them.

This was a fantastic read, couldn’t put it down, didn’t want it to end. Both characters were fun, with so many issues you just wanted to reach in and fix them.

So sad this is the end.

I enjoyed

Yes it’s problematic but it was good.
I just hated the fact that they had a male and female narrator yet.. let the man use that voice for a female. Weird!

Finally LJ Shen is back in the groove.

I loved this story. L J Shen books have been a bit meh, recently but this one is back in form and the best of the three.

Daphne is British and desperate for a green card, her bf has just left her to “find himself” for six months leaving her jobless and on the last gasp of her sponsored work visa. Having come across Riggs in questionable circumstances she “blackmails” him into marrying her for a green card, and he agrees for his own reasons.

What starts as a marriage of convenience where both parties are not overly fond of each other, turns into something more as they discover they aren’t who they thought they were, both themselves or each other. There are twists and turns, revelations and losses.

Daphne is quirky and direct, Riggs is grumpy, emotionally unavailable and has abandonment issues. He’s also a billionaire even though Daphne doesn’t know it given he carries all his worldly goods in a back pack, has no home and is rootless.

They both discover things about themselves. Daphne discovers she isn’t the gold digger she thought she was, and what she is looking for isn’t money and status. Riggs discovers that letting someone go who you love is actually worse than the fear of them letting you go if you decide to try and hold onto them.

Shen has had a few goes at writing British characters and has fallen short of the mark. This is however a winner and reminds me of Maihri McFarlane in some ways.

My only problem with this book is the narration. The fact they got a British narrator for Daphne is a massive plus. She was great. The male narrator was great at playing Riggs and brought great depth. However, the male narrator was absolutely terrible at the female part and even worse at a British accent. Awful, dreadful! Would have worked better as a duet. Such a shame as otherwise it would have been perfection
