Summary

NOW A MAJOR FILM

From the New York Times best-selling author of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo.

Named a Best Book of Summer by Cosmopolitan * InStyle *PopSugar * Buzzfeed * Bustle * Brit+Co * Parade

In her 20s, Emma Blair marries her high school sweetheart, Jesse. They build a life for themselves, far away from the expectations of their parents and the people of their hometown in Massachusetts. They travel the world together, living life to the fullest and seizing every opportunity for adventure. On their first wedding anniversary, Jesse is on a helicopter over the Pacific when it goes missing. Just like that, Jesse is gone forever.

Emma quits her job and moves home in an effort to put her life back together. Years later, now in her 30s, Emma runs into an old friend, Sam, and finds herself falling in love again. When Emma and Sam get engaged, it feels like Emma’s second chance at happiness. That is, until Jesse is found. He’s alive, and he’s been trying all these years to come home to her. With a husband and a fiancé, Emma has to now figure out who she is and what she wants while trying to protect the ones she loves. But who is her one true love? What does it mean to love truly?

Very readable

Top notch for this genre of fiction. An enjoyable story, nicely paced, with a satisfying ending.

Ok

Ok for a weekend/holiday read but a bit disappointing as it could have been done so much better

Emotive romantic tale with outstanding narration

Beautifully written with lots of interesting supporting characters. The central dilemma of this novel is written realistically with a believable outcome. Highly recommended.

Lovely story

Enjoyed it as I have with all of TJR books but nothing to write home about. Just warm and lovely, perfect holiday read.

Great idea for a story but ….

I’ve read a couple Taylor Jenkins Reid books and i particularly very much enjoyed the Evelyn Hugo story (very well written) but this one, in contrast, in my opinion, wasn’t one of her best. I found it all a bit sickly, sweet and in parts, rather overly drawn out and a little boring. I was mighty glad Emma finally made her decision and I got to the end! I didn’t mind the narrator, and wasn’t put off by all the male voices being the same. I do think though that this author is very hit and miss.

Made me cry

This is definitely not the height of literature… nor is it as compelling and arresting as Seven Husbands. There are however beautiful moments, intimacy, heart break and a taste of what it’s like to feel in love through the pages of a book and the eyes of characters. As the title of the review says, it made me cry, and even though I know it’s not perfect, it made me feel and I enjoyed it!
