Summary

Sun-drenched glamour and obscene wealth hide the darkest of secrets and lost girls in this ripped-from-the-headlines thriller.

1985

For 12-year-old Mercedes, La Kastellana is the place she calls home. It is an island untouched by the modern world, with deep-rooted traditions—though that is all about to change with the arrival of multimillionaire Matthew Meade and his spoiled young daughter, Tatiana. The Meades bring with them unimaginable wealth, but the price they will all pay is far darker than Mercedes and the islanders could ever have imagined.

2016

Robin is desperately searching for her 17-year-old daughter Gemma, who has been missing for over a year. Finding herself on La Kastellana, the island playground of the international jet set, Robin is out of her depth. Nobody wants to help and Robin fears she is running out of time to find her child.

But someone has been watching, silently waiting for their moment to expose the dark truth and reveal to the world what really happens on the island of lost girls.

Gripping

I absolutely loved this book, even tho the subject matter was really gritty. Thoroughly gripping and read so well.

Required reading

This book spins together the consequences of gross inequalities and the turning of blind eyes by the very people most abused. A brilliant, contemporaneous marker of ridiculous, damaging perversity. .

Disturbing but gripping

I don’t think enjoyed is quite the right word to use. Gripping yet extremely uncomfortable to read I definitely made lots of similarities with real life people, I’ll name no names though. But what happened tonTatiana!!

an uncomfortable subject

I dont know if the discomfort I am feeling, having read this book is an evidence ofvits success or not? I found the topic of what was happening toothed girls quite disturbing...leaving me in a position where I find it hard to say that I LIKED the book!

5 stars, just as I suspected

I don't even like this genre but I always make an exception in the case of Alex Marwood and I've never regretted it. I got what I expected and it was very very good. However, I still prefer Darkest Secret. Read this.

Gripping story, well told

Art imitates life in this Weinstein-Maxwell-esque tale of the disgusting disgustingly amoral super rich.
The unseen and overlooked “little people “ are the real heroes and heroines
